Dr. May Hua

Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology

Research Description

Our research focuses on studying the delivery of palliative care and end-of-life care for critically ill patients. We use a mixed-methods approach, combining epidemiologic, quasi-experimental and advanced statistical modeling techniques with qualitative techniques. We conduct studies using secondary data aimed at assessing the effectiveness of specialized palliative care in the ICU setting, as well as prospective qualitative studies aimed at understanding latent factors that may affect uptake of interventions designed to improve delivery of palliative and end-of-life care. We also conduct studies examining long-term outcomes of critical illness and the epidemiology of critical care.
