The E.M. Papper Endowed Lecture series is held in honor of Dr. Emanuel M. Papper "Manny." In 1952, Dr. Papper was appointed Chairman of the independent Columbia University Department of Anesthesiology. At the time, there were only three other departments of anesthesiology in the world. Dr. Papper is responsible for the creation of one of the foremost Anesthesiology Departments in the world. Dr. Papper passed away in December 2002, and in honor of his enormous contributions to our department and institution, our department holds two lecture events each year to celebrate his great legacy.
