Jeanine D'Armiento, M.D., Ph.D. Appointed Chair of Alpha-1 Foundation

Jeanine M. D'Armiento, M.D., Ph.D., is the new chair of the Board of Directors at the Alpha-1 Foundation. Dr. D'Armiento as been an active member of the Alpha-1 Foundation Board of Directors since 2011. As the new chair of the Board of Directors, Dr. D'Armiento will focus on bringing the patient support and research networks together for a cohesive and effective approach that will ultimately benefit both.  Dr. D'Armiento previously served on the Executive Committee of the Foundation and now embarks on a new chapter as the gavel is passed from Gordon E. Cadwgan, Ph.D., the past chair. Dr. D'Armiento is a Professor of Medicine in Anesthesiology and Physiology and Cellular Biophysics. She is also the director of the Center for Molecular Pulmonary Disease in Anesthesiology and Physiology and Celluar Biophysics, as well as the Center for Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and Rare Young Disease. Dr. D'Armiento is a leader who brings a profound understanding of the science and clinical needs of Alpha-1 patients.  

The Alpha-1 Foundation has developed a solid infrastructure to promote research and the development of new therapies for improving the quality of life for those diagnosed with Alpha-1. The Foundation has fostered collaborations with investigators across the nation and Europe and works closely with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and people affected by Alpha-1.
