Congratulations to Dr. Emily Wang and Dr. Robert Maniker for completing the New York City Marathon. This was the first time each of the runners participated in a marathon of any kind.

Dr Wang explained that she started running when she first moved to New York City about six years ago for her residency and it took her three to four months to prepare for the marathon. She said she thought it was going to be an exciting experience to run through all five boroughs. “It was nice to have a buddy there with me,” she said, referring to Dr. Maniker, who shares a similar story.

Dr. Maniker said he was motivated to make the run having lived in NYC for the past eight years, and as a runner for most of his life, it seemed to be a natural progression.

Both runners were chosen by lottery process to enter the race, which saw 117,7109 applicants but only 10,510 were accepted.

Dr. Wang completed the run in 3:42:30; Dr. Maniker’s time was 3:38:39.
