Dr. Viola Neudecker Recognized As A Leader In Her Field

Dr. Viola Neudecker was recognized for her work at the 2019 annual meetings of three leading field organizations, the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC), and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).  Dr. Neudecker joined Dr. Brambrink’s lab in 2018 as a physician-scientist researching developmental neurotoxicity.  She works closely with Dr. Jose Perez-Zoghbi here at CUMC and with Dr. Brambrink’s former research team at Oregon Health Sciences University. 

• At the annual meeting of the IARS, Dr. Neudecker received the Kosaka Best of Meeting Award for “GFAP expression in the visual cortex is increased in juvenile non-human primates that were exposed to anesthesia during infancy.”  Her work on infant anesthesia neurotoxicity is highlighted by the IARS in this interview on the society’s website.    

• At SNACC’s annual meeting, Dr. Neudecker was presented with the Best of Meeting Award in the Basic Neuroscience Category and with the Abstract Award from Women in Neuroanesthesiology and Neuroscience Education and Research (WINNER) for “Infant Isoflurane Exposure Affects Social Behaviors but not Cognitive Functions in Juvenile Non-Human Primates.”  SNACC created WINNER in 2018 to help balance gender equity in academic neuroanesthesia by rewarding excellence in research contributions by women.  An interview with Dr. Neudecker is featured in the current SNACC newsletter. 

• At the annual meeting of the ASA, “Infant Isoflurane Exposure Affects Social Behaviors but not Cognitive Functions in Juvenile Non-Human Primates” was selected for oral presentation in the “Best Abstracts” session.
