Dr. Brambrink Speaking to students.

Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Dr. Ansgar Brambrink, recently served as the keynote speaker at the 8th Oriental Congress of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (OCAP 2019) and the 7th Global Conference on Perioperative Care of the Cancer Patient (GCPCC 2019) in Shanghai, China.

“I was very honored to have received the invitation to present my work with our international colleagues in anesthesiology,” Brambrink said. “The opportunity to exchange research, interact with students and promote the Columbia brand is always a gratifying experience, particularly at the international level where we are able to build each other’s understanding of issues beyond our own.”

Dr. Brambrink’s presentation was titled “What Do We Currently Know About the Effects of Anesthetics on Neurodevelopment?” The presentation investigated whether anesthesia/surgery exposure early in life impairs intellectual development. The conference was attended by clinicians and academics from Japan, South Korea and other Asia-Pacific regions, Hong Kong and Taiwan, within the specialization of anesthesiology.

The conference aimed to promote the development of anesthesia and perioperative medicine, improve patient outcomes, enhance relations among global anesthesiologists and sought ways to further improve research capabilities and clinical services to the benefit of patient delivery.

The conference was held from June 21st to 23rd and was organized by the Organizing Committee and Shanghai Society of Anesthesiology, an affiliate of the Shanghai Medical Association.
